About The Artist
Catherine’s work encompasses landscapes, still life, portraits and figure drawing in a variety of media, but with a particular emphasis on portraiture. She also writes and illustrates children’s books, teaches beginners' art classes and runs community art events.
Catherine is based at the Haworth Artists’ Studios, part of the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington, Lancashire, an enviably beautiful and inspirational environment in which to work.
At the Haworth Catherine certainly makes the most of her creative passions – making art, teaching art, and encouraging people to engage with art . The artists based in this lively and friendly community share ideas and inspiration, give each other support and swap network contacts.
Catherine fulfils several roles at the Haworth, and so no two days are the same for her, which suits her down to the ground! As a specialist in portraiture, some days she can be found in her studio working on a portrait commission using her favourite medium of pastels.
On another day, she might be preparing materials and demonstration examples for one of her popular “Learn To Draw And Paint” beginners’ art classes which she runs regularly at the Haworth gallery, and at other venues across Lancashire. A qualified art teacher, Catherine absolutely loves sharing her wide variety of skills with adult beginners and art enthusiasts making their way along their artistic journeys.
Alternatively, she could be designing a series of illustrations for a children’s book, or even organising the music and costumes for one of her themed “Creative Late” figure-sketching evenings.
